Default Camera Mods

Hi guys,
just discovered this great forum.

I should have my re-tooled Collins Class sail in a few weeks from Defence Models and Graphics, and I am planning on installing the camera system in the sail.
I will need to reduce the size of the Camera WTC that I bought, and plan to link power wires from the camera WTC to inside my main WTC. I am also thinking I could replace the Voltage reg for the camera and replace it with another one in the main WTC and run the camera off the main drive battery via a new Voltage reg. So long as I have 5 volts going to the camera from the voltage reg - will I be ok?

Thanks

John

So ... you need a WTC for just the camera with the ability to pass a set of power wires from that WTC (in the sail) to the main WTC (in the hull)?

E-mail me.

John,

You nasty down-under type, you!

Just cut out the middle-man -- the dedicated camera voltage regulator you mentioned -- and run power leads to an unused servo port on the side of the receiver. That will put 4.8 Volts into your camera-transmitter. Done! No mess, no fuss.

However, the camera-transmitter represents an additional 100 mili Ampere's load on the BEC (fancy name for 'voltage regulator', usually housed within the ESC), so perform a load test of the entire package (Ampere meter in series with one of the BEC leads -- the red or black wire within the ESC harness that plugs into servo port #3 of the receiver), and operate all the servos during the test.

If total current draw is less than 1.5 Ampere's, you're good to go. But, if 1.5 or more Ampere's are indicated you are putting the power supply at risk of burn-out and you'll be compelled to use a dedicated voltage regulator to drive the camera-transmitter system.

Does any of this **** make sense? I'm tired ... Caswell works me too hard!

David,

OK, sounds good, John. Keep in mind that the short cylinder is the same diameter as the unit you have in hand, but only about two-inches long!
