  • Acid strength.

Hello all. I am very new to this. Been working on some caps I made. So far I have 1 anodized. My surface area is 7.025 I am wondering how long the acid is good for? How do you know it is depleted? I mixed it 2 parts distilled water and one part sulfuric acid. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jeff, Your acid can last years if you look after it. It doesn't have a shelf live but the strength does diminish with use due to things like drag-out and free acid conversion to aluminum sulfate in the form of flocculation. If you run aluminum cathodes then pull them out when you are not using them. Depending on how involved you are planning to get will dictate whether you get into things like titrating the bath and other maintenance routines.
