aluminum types?

there seems to be many types of aluminum out there, is there any way to tell what kind of aluminum one is working with?

The easiest method is to have your supplier tell you. If you are buying raw barstock, it should have the type printed on it.

I don't know of any easy method to take an unknown alloy and determine its constituents.
