  • Spring/ Bottled water?

My R/O filter has been working very slow, and I was wondering if the bottled spring water like poland springs was safe to use. Given the fact that that it does not say explitly "Distilled water"
    Thanks.

most grocery stores sell gallon jugs of steam distilled water fairly cheap. it should cost a good bit less than the small bottles.
when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

Well, the thing is, none of the bottles say "distilled" or Steam Distilled" so I'm not sure if plain "spring water" is treated and safe to use for annodizing...

        Re: Spring/ Bottled water?

i would venture to say no in this case. most spring water still contains mineral traces that might damage the ano process. but then again my knowledge of ano is very limited. i would wait for one of the ano experts or caswell to chime in on this before using it.

Do NOT use spring water or mineral water.

Walmart sells RO water in 5 gallon refillable jugs pretty cheap.

If your RO is running slow, it's probably time for a filter change - and don't forget to flush the membrane for 30 seconds each week.

I would sure hope it's not time for a filter change, seeing as it's brand new...
It's been running for 4 days, producing about 1 gallon of water from 50 gallon of waste water

What do you mean by waste water?

The non purified water comming out of the orange tubing. Kent Marine calls it " waste water. I'm figuring that the the low output is due to that fact that is running at about 50 degrees.

                    Re: Spring/ Bottled water?

I haven't had any problems due to temperature. I had low output on mine due to holding tank position and hose routing, causing an air block.

Where I'm at waste water is used water. Gray water from the sinks and tubs and brown water from the toilets. I could see that stopping up your filters in a few days. LOL

                      Re: Spring/ Bottled water?

Nop, it's all crystal clear tap water. I took a look at my RO system and it seemed to be assembled correctly. The Instructions say I should be getting about a 4:1 ratio of unclean water to pure water. I'm getting about a 50:1 ratio. I'l call them up tomarrow and see what they say. Also, I couldn't find Distilled water, on Walmart's site(also checked Kmart and Target, and the local supermarket) or any water at all for that matter.

                        Re: Spring/ Bottled water?

Grocery stores and big box stores usually have it with the drinking water for about a dollar a gallon. Let me know what you find out in case I run into it again.

50F shouldn't affect the RO system that much. Mine is running fine. Try flushing your membrane for 10 or 15 minutes.
Yeah, don't use spring water. I can't believe you can't find distilled water... all the grocery stores around here sell it for ~$.90/gallon.
                          I do things.

1 gallon of RO per 50 gallons of waste seems awfully high to me - make sure you've flushed your membrane properly. If that ratio is true, I'd be on the phone to the water company...if the TFC membrane is rejecting that amount of water, it must be full of junk (or are you putting well water through it?) Are you drinking this water?
