  • Just made 40 Titanium spring wire clips

    6AL-4V ELI 0.0620" diameter

the spring tension on these are amazing to say the least, I bought $60 worth from http://titaniumjoe.com/6al-4v%20round%20bars.htm

The are a V shape and the ends come out at a right andgle very short ends I will try to snap a pic

I have about 40 cent each in them, make 5 from one stick, they are about 4" long when in the V shape spring, about 4" wide at the base and will be compressed to less than an inch, talk about spring tension, from my dealing with aluminum this stuff is 1000% better for making spring type connections, and cheap from the other places I have seen as well.

I wil get a picture soon

    Greetings rclint,

Titanium is way cool stuff! I have also made some
Ti fingers for my parts. From your description yours
are very efficient. Would like to see your photos if
    possible.
    I don't know how the photos work in this forum . . . . .
I would post, but I don't know if it I do it here, locally
    or in the Anodizing pictures thread . . . . . ?
Let me know how you post your pics, if you don't mind.

    thanks,
    archi

          clint,

Thanks for the help and the photos.
Your tension springs in Ti are a good
          idea.

Re: Just made 40 Titanium spring wire clips

Just done a 30 part run 100% perfect. that's the best I have ever done on these parts, I'm starting to think Titanium is by far the way to go, these small parts normaly kill me on rack time and then I always have several to fail.

More clips will be made for sure !!

              clint,

              Congrats on your results.
And thanks for your pics--- I had a feeling
your springs would be similiar in mechanics
to mine. I am posting a pic of mine in
the construction phase thru finish phase.
              thanks again for your help,

Re: Just made 40 Titanium spring wire clips

                  thanx for your compliment,

these are some of titanium fingers used in my anodizing
process. I use an aluminum "drawbar" to pull the solid ball
upward, expanding the fingers and gripping the ID of the part.
the beauty of titanium is its ability to spring to great dimensions
w/o undo affect. for instance the nominal dimension on the
finger is 5/8, but i have been able to grip ID's of almost 1 1/8"
and the fingers still spring back to 5/8 when released.
the picture you see is a trilogy of the start to finish
using 3 fingers in different states of the machining process.
below is a photo of the fingers installed on my ano rail.
but i also like Rclint's titanium wire finger as well -- as we have
enjoyed success using titanium in our own forms.

Know this is an older post but looking at getting some of the 6AL-4V ELI 0.0620" and wondering how is it holding up and is it still working good for those of you using it.

                    thanks

You do not want Grade 5 or 6 titanium, its alloyed with alot of other alloys, making it great for strength but not for plating.

I have some grade 2 1/8" rod I can sell, I bought a big surplus of it. I have about 20 3ft rods available.

Re: Just made 40 Titanium spring wire clips

How is it for springyness (if that is a word)? I want to make some smaller - 4 inch folded over- clips like in post # 4 of this thread.

And how much per rod? would probably only need two or three to try.

They are very good, They are however, twice the diameter of his. They will give a strong hold, but if your doing small parts thick wire isnt going to help you. I can do $2.50 a foot plus shipping, and can cut it shorter for easier shipping.

                            Destroyer,
                            Just sent you a PM.
                            Will take about 12'

Why do you say its not going to help with small parts?

An 1/8" rod isnt going to work if your trying to rack something by a hole under 1/2" unless the part has a 4-40 screw hole, then you can thread these into the part. Of course the possibilies are endless.
