  • Dull black parts when taken out of nickel bath.

I'm getting dull black spots on my nickel plating that are impossible to buff out? anybody know what they are.I,ve double checked all my settings (amperage, temp). The part is fully polished before it goes in bath but when it comes out its shining on one side of the piece and has random dark dull spots on the other.I have stripped it several times and started over with the same results.Help!!!!

Are you going in live? This might be the cause. You should have the current on during the entry into the tank. I would also check your connections, I run my bath temp at 125. Anything lower than that and I start to have to dull plating, black spots etc.

      Hello,
Important questions, what is your base metal steel, brass, diecast?
It appears to be brass! If brass, sometimes lead in the brass material will diffuse through the nickel plating casing black spots. If you copper plate a layer, polish and then nickel plate. If no black spots appear it was your base metal. Just a trouble shooting tip before you toss your nickel out.
      Good Luck,

Could be contamination of other metals in the tank. Dummy plate before you try any more pieces.
