  • Mercedes bumper

I'm restoring Mercedes Benz's and am going to order a triple plate kit soon but I was wondering about these bumpers off of my '60 Mercedes. These things are about 1200 sq. inches. Is it possible to design a tank for them, attach a bank of batteries w/ lights to draw the correct amount of power and actually plate them in my garage. Or should I just do the little stuff here and let the chrome shop nail me for $3-400 per bumper?

Also, there are thin long pieces of chrome on these cars. If I put a piece that's say 1" x 60" into a tank thats 6" x 72", will I be able to get good coverage? How many anodes and of what size and spacing would you suggest for triple plating? And if I don't care, would you recommend the electroless chroming kit?

    Newbie,

Forget the bumpers. The cost of a tank full of chrome, and the power supply would far outweigh the cost of sending them out.

The thin items could easily be plated in a Woronko Plating Chamber, with small amounts of current - relatively. See the manual for details

      Thanks for the reply.

There are about 60 pieces of chrome off this car, of all sizes. How many man-hours would it realistically take one person to do them in triple plate? Given the right stripping and buffing equipment.

Thats a tough one to answer. It depends on how many you put in the tank at once.
From start to finish, the process should take about 1- 1.5 hrs for each batch.
