  • Rookie. How to Zinc plate

Hey guys have just got my electroplate kit. Am ready through the Caswell manual. Now I still need to get a few things before I start. I have a few questions. In step 6 says optional acid etch with 5% hydrochloric acid. Why is this step optinal? And also I read earlier in the book about pickle #4 can I use this rather then the hydrochloric acid ?
and after this step should I rinse in distilled water before plating ?

    thanks for your time.

Ok so do use dip in acid then plate then dip in acid again before chromate ?

I’m also struggling to find the most efficient way to clean paint and rust off the bottles before plating them. Was thinking of buys a tumbler or maybe a small sand blasting cabinet or just using acid ? Would love to know peoples point of view

          Yes, it's certainly an option.

I tumble everything before plate, wet (distilled water) with a rust cutting media. Then acid dip.

I'm sure blasting can be just as effective.
