  • Copy cad questions

I have two questions regarding the copy cad system.
    1) From day one, the plating solution is a clear yellow until I agitate it. It’s like the A and B parts didn’t mix well. Should I use coffee filters to filter the solution?
    2) Everything I have plated looks good except for a slight yellow color. I have added the brightener when I made up the first batch and once again after a few plating sessions. I can polish the parts lighly with a polishing pad on a Dremel. Could it still need more brightner? Thanks for any help.

    Greetings erdeshales.
    1. The honey color is normal. Is there sediment in the bottom of the bucket? Are you using your heater? For what it is worth, I filter my solution after every day of plating (about 10 strings).
    2. What type of finish are you looking for? I prefer the shiny, chrome-like finish, so I use both brightener and a post plating chromate dip. I plate my hardware for 30 minutes, rotating the string at 15 minutes. I recommend a chromate dip because it improves corrosion protection.
    I hope this response helps.

KRR I’d also like additional durability and bright like chrome finish. Seems like yellow and blue chromate will dull that finish. Is there a a clear chromate? Steve

Greetings, Concerning brightness; I only have experience with the plating brightener combined with the blue chromate post plate dip. This combination provides the chrome-like brightness and increased protection. I have Triumph motorcycles with plating that is relatively bright after 8 years. Hope this helps. KRR
