Does any one know if I can substitute the chrome anodes for the copy chrome in the wheel chroming kit or can I get containers large enough to drop the rims in and just use the triple chrome kit. The reason I am asking is because I am not sure if rims are able to be put in the triple chrome solution since the wheel kit comes in copy chrome. and since I am on the question of chroming, can I just follow the direction for triple chrome and for a change if I want to dip in black chrome just substitute black chrome for the chrome or is there a different procedure for black chrome.

Darrell,
The biggest problem I can see right off the bat is that if you are wanting to use triple chrome on something like wheels (what KIND of wheels? Car? Motorcycle? ATV?) then for the actual chrome plating itself, you are going to need a power supply of 1 Amp per square inch of wheel surface for real chrome, whereas copy chrome, which is mainly a Nickel coating and Nickel only needs about 1 Amp per 14-16 square inches. Take a tape measure, and measure out the exposed area of the wheel you want to chrome, and then compare to what a suitable power supply runs, and you'll see real quick that you are getting into some serious bucks to be able to do wheels. Plus, you will have to have a large enough set of tubs to cover the wheels in the various solutions, and enough gallons of solutions to cover those wheels and allow them to be turned where the anodes can face them for line-of-sight. Can it be done? Sure. Like the old saying goes, "Speed is just a question of money; how fast can you afford to go?" Same theory applies to chroming bigger and bigger items. As for black chrome, I haven't used it first hand, so I can't really say for sure, but the above answer is based on my experience with the triple chrome kit, and all the expense and effort I've just put into trying to expand it just to do something the size of a motorcycle gas tank. Wheels are the next level up from that, even.

chrome kits
thanks for the response, I want to dip rims from bikes and possible car rims also but I was not sure if it was something that is damaging to the rim with the triple chrome, but what I can tell from what you are saying is that it is easier and a lot less expensive to use copy chrome because of the heating situation with the two solutions. I also wanted to know where can you buy large containers to chrome bigger objects in or is it possible to make your own. And where would I go to get a larger rectifier?
