Hi:
If your doing a boat I would definently go with nickel and then chrome. The nickel will tarnish in time and then your back to dull looking parts.
Chrome will protect them.
You could do all the prep work (buffing,sanding,polishing) and then use electrolytic nickel on them. For 60-70 square inches you will need less then 10 amps.
Then you could pay a plater to put the chrome on. Its a lot cheaper that way, as you have already done all the work!
You might not want to use the electroless nickel for outdoor use. Its thinner and eventually the solution runs out of nickle.
