Shouldn't have to if you polished before plating. Chances of getting much, if any, brighter is limted.
I always treat my plating as I do gold and silver after the post-plating rinse; I rub them with a wet baking soda paste.
Lightly applied Flitz polish will also keep the brightness up. Going to a wheel, unless you have a LOT of experience, can remove plating.
Even then I use a small (4") wheel for less SFPM and it's made of soft chamois for jewelry work.
