Newbie with prior plating experience. Question: After de-greasing,pickling,copper flash plating is acetone a suitable cleaner before silver plating? Does it leave a residue? Yhanks,Fred

I'm not inclined to encourage anyone to use volatile solvents for cleaning anything these days. Acetone is very effective at dissolving a range of greases and waxes, but not all. Will it leave a residue? Absolutely, unless you keep the solvent clean, and/or use multiple rinses. I'd advise using a strong water based detergent in conjunction with an ultrasonic cleaner. But NEVER use a solvent in an ultrasonic, especially one with a heater.

Thanks for your reply Ken. I'll use a strong mix of Dawn dish washing detergent, good rinsing with distilled water and an ultrasonic bath. I'm trying to keep all residues OUT of my plating tank. Have a good day,Fred
