  • PLATING THE SURFACE OF A THROUGHHOLE

I have some through holes on a circuit board and I was wanting to plate them.

The basics are that if I can plate the hole that is punched through teh cicuit board, I can run current from one side of the board to the other (let's say I have a double sided circuit board).

I'm a little lost as to how to approach this project. I am even wondering if plating is really a viable option.

Can someone anticipate any problems I might have.

After reading the forum topics it appears that If I use silver paint as a primer, then I woudl have to nickel coat before the application of copper because the pH of the solution in copper plating will degrade the primer.

    any suggestiosn woudl be appreciated.

Plated through holes on PCBs have been used for decades. There is a website. thinktink.com that explains this specific application in great detail. There is no reason why Caswell's copper plating methods and materials can't be readily adapted for this application.
