  • Copy Cad - Success with first time plating

I can report without bias that Caswell's Copy Cad plating system definitely works. Yesterday I plated my first items using "reasonable" care and attention to guidelines. My one "advantage" (if you want to call it that) was that I purchased one of their 3V plating rectifiers for $95 which allows me to precisely control the voltage and amperage.

Using zinc brightner, I got parts that look Chromed. Very pleased with the kit as far as results go.

As a test, I sprayed a freshly plated part with Simple Green which is a caustic cleaning solution and did get any dulling of the bright finish. it wiped off and left the bright, chrome looking finish, which surprised me.

I would think that anyone should be able to achieve similar results with just the minimal care and attention.

I think you've got some bad info here. Simple Green is an ionic surfactant, contains no "reportable" hazardous ingredients (which a caustic would be), and is considered non-toxic.

I meant "That Purple Stuff"...not Simple Green.

OK, I'm not familiar with that stuff.
