  • tank heater rubber ends deteriorating

Just set up he chrome tank, (triple chrome plate system) and plated a dummy and a piece of copper tube, I then started to clean up, pulled the anodes out and the heater, Well, the heater rubber ends are deteriorating fast.
I had black rubber all over my gloves, this better not be contaminating my Chrome tank. Answers please
Also the rubber suction cup swelled so bad that it fell off the heater.

Re: tank heater rubber ends deteriorating

Tom, same thing happened to me, in fact, the bottom piece of rubber was eaten away so much it fell off in the tank, the quartz came out in the tank(like sand), there was a big buzz, and the heater was fried. The replacement heater was received and I coated both ends in silicone, and has helped. It didn't solve the problem, as the acid still gets into the rubber a little bit, but it is much better. NO problem with contamination, don't worry there. You may want to try epoxy rather than silicone caulk. Be sure the caulk is completely cured before you put it in, as it may cause a film to develop on top of the tank which will definitely screw things up. -Jimmy

          tank heater watts?

does anybody know what wattage to the titanuim heaters that come with the 5gal kit. looking around for some hoter heaters to get the tanks up to temps quicker. took about 4hrs to get them up to temps (54f to 111.7f) and the degreaser only topped 88f on the 300.
