  • Power supply for copy cad

I'm wondering if I can use one of these [email protected] regulated DC supplies for plating. Right now I've got the little Caswell digital unit and it has worked well up to this point but now the parts are getting bigger and the unit can't handle some of the stuff I'm doing. Money is obviously an issue otherwise I'd just buy a $300 rectifier and be done with it. I see a lot of these 6 - 12vdc @10amp supplies with one knob for voltage. I'm wondering how I'd control the current or if I'd need to.

    Ken:

It's plenty of power, but as you've already noted, you have no control over current. You'd have to devise some external current control.

You'd really be best off with a CC power supply. Keep an eye on ebay every day. They don't show up every day, but occasionally you can get a decent one cheap. That's how I got mine, 16v, 10A, for $50 delivered to the door.

If you're handy with electronics, you might think about Fibergeeks VCCS power supply.

Thanks Sean. You answered the question though And that was what I needed. I guess I need to make sure I have a way to control current and jhave at least 2vdc or more output.

Some of these units just have a knob for voltage output and no amperage control. I was trying to figure out how to deal with that.

We are working on a new 20 & 30 amp CC power supply. The first should be with us any day. Watch the webpage for details
