Masking areas where no plate is wanted

Is there a way to "mask" an area so that it's not plated? I have a brass part that has some bare steel and some lead content metal that would need to be submerged but I don't want those reacting and being plated.

You can lacquer the part you don't want plated, then remove the lacquer with paint stripper after plating is complete.

Just any 'ol spray laquer paint? Will enamel or polyurethane work too and not dissolve/contaminate plating solution?

Masking of areas you dont want plated

Hi:
If you do use laquer, put a couple of coats on the part. If you only use one, you may grow little nodules where the electrolytic solution got through to the base metal.
