  • Is One Tank Enough ?

I was wondering I would like to deplate a set of cad? Or zink? plated snowmobile skis for which I am building a tank to copy cad in. My question is can I deplate in the same tank or do I need 2 seprate tanks? if I use the same tank will it cause problems whe I am ready to plate ? I am using the copy cad/zink kit with a 60 amp power source. Thanks

You can simply immerse the parts in Pickle #2 (muriatic acid) solution to strip zinc - no power required.

Are you asking if you could strip the parts in a tank, drain, and clean and refill to plate or deplate in the same solution you plate in ? SS

If it was me, I would try to get a seperate tank for each bath, it just helps prevent more problems than your gonna have anyway....

First off I guess I assumed you strip or deplate in the same bath as you plate in is this correct? and by that I mean copy cad solution anoed and so on. If not what type of soultion would you use to deplate? Do I need to have the same set up the same as if I were plating? As for the tank to build this tank is bit on the pricy side by the time I am done. So I was hoping I only had to build one. Thanks for the quick response.

Im not sure about stripping cad, or zinc, but NO I have a seperate tank for each bath, my strip tank is just a 33 gal. rubber made drum (grey) from Home Depot. YOu can use a couple different chemicals to strip with, but I only strip chrome, and my strip bath is caustic/water with reverse polarity from a rectifier..... Try the pickle #2 from caswell plating manual it works I just don't like it for stripping pot-metal, and aluminum parts due to the reacting in bolt holes where the threads are...

How long are the skis? You could find a white plastic barrel or cap a piece of large diameter PVC pipe to strip in. If you go PVC, watch you volume so as not to overflow when the parts are put in.

I am using a peice of pvc for the plate tank a piece 10" by 28" that will go to a reducer 10" to 8" then a piece of 8"x 27" with a cap. for those 4 pieces total cost is arround $200.00. The skis are 48" long and 6" wide with a ski loop that adds 5" to the height of the skis. that is the reason I only wanted to build one tank. If I was to use a barrel any thoughts as to how to mix the soultion and at what amperage to deplate with? Thanks I have looked for pickel# 2 on the web site and cant seem to find it,

YOu don't have to strip the whole piece at one time, but when you plate the part you need to plate the whole piece at one time.. so if you have your plating tanks ready and you don't want to make the strip tanks as long then make a small tank that will do half at one time then do the other half next..

Pickle #2 is muriatic and water. Page #35 in the manual.

Check out these places for tanks. They may have a better option at a cheaper price.
