replating gold over brass watch cases

I deal in antique pocket watches. Most all the pocket watches I buy which are in gold (rolled-gold) cases are usually worn to brass on the edges and other high spots. My question is, Can a nickle plate over the existing gold and brass before replating with gold? Right now I'm using the plug-n-plate system and have had good results with gold plating over regular Nickle cases.

CAN YOU ELECTROPLATE NICKLE OVER GOLD?

Yes, that should work ok, but I'd prefer to buff off the old gold, purely so that the underlying metal is highly polished. It will make the gold shine more.
