2) Can the part be done in sections....ie 1 half at a time (part only partially submersed, plated, and then flipped over and unplated portion submersed.)

Not really - bluing of the plate cannot be prevented.

Yes, you can partially plate items by submersing half, then the other half etc. You may get a fine line, which can usually be buffed out.
