Stripping Gun Blue & Black Oxide

What is the best way (chemical) to remove an existing gun blue, or black oxide finish on a soft carbon steel base, without altering the base itself?

Is muratic the same as muriatic (pool supply) acid? What concentration (ratio) should be used?

gun blue removal

well i always use muratic pool acid strait it does a great job on removing blue then i rinse in distilled water prior to plateing
