Copy Cad

Can I plate directly over a layer of existing cadmiun if the surface is glass beaded and degreased? The parts that I am restoring seem to have a rather thick coating of cad. and I do not wish to remove all of it due to the hazards of dust etc. The surfaces are smooth and corrosion free, just tarnished and worn off in some places. Thanks
