  • the new silvaspray.

has any one out there used the new silvaspray. i keep having delaminating problems when i pull it from the solution. the plate sticks very well to the silvaspray but the silvaspray delaminates.

it failed on all kinds of plastics and sandblasted pot metal with body filler.

if you have it and it works for you let me know what you think.

    silvaspray

Silvaspray is only for use on nonconductive parts. Why are you using it on metal? It prbably peeled off of the polished aluminum because its just like paint, it won't stick to polished surfaces. Silvaspray should only need to be used on plastic, wood, leather, etc.

FIRST OF ALL PAINT WILL STICK TO POLISHED ALUMINUM. IT WILL NOT HAVE OPTIMUM ADHESION BUT IT WILL ADHERE. (I AM A PAINT TECHNICIAN FOR A SUBSIDIARY OF DUPONT, I THINK I KNOW.) SECOND I HAVE TRIED EVERY MATERIAL I COULD FIND AND IT STILL DELAMINATES. WHEN IT DOES ADHERE IT BUBBLES UP IN SMALL AREAS THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE WEATHER CHANGES. IT IS NOTHING LIKE DESCRIBED ON THE CASWELL SITE, THATS FOR SURE. AND IVE BEEN THROUGH THE PRS SO DONT BUG ME ABOUT THAT. I JUST WANT A GOOD CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL FOR PLASTICS. ANYONE HAVE ANY TRICKS.
IM GOING TO TRY A COLD GALVANIZING SPRAY. THEORETICALLY IT WILL GIVE THE PART A ZINC COATING. (IF THAT EVEN WORKS.) WHAT DO I PLATE OVER ZINC WITH.

ALL OF CASWELLS STUFF THAT IVE BOUGHT HAS WORKED. THIS IS THE ONLY EXCEPTION. ASK ME ALL THE THINGS YOU THINK I DID WRONG. IM NOT PERFECT. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL BE THE CASE HERE.

TXTURBO, YOU SHOULD TRY THIS STUFF OUT. I MEAN HECK, YOUVE GOT 3 STARS.

Sure, paint will stick to aluminum, if it's prepped properly, but Silvaspray isn't designed to stick to metals. There's no need to use a conductive spray on parts that are already conductive. It's designed for plastic, wood, leather etc.

You say that you want a good conductive spray for plastics, but you're trying it on aluminum and pot metal. I guess I'm confused about what you're trying to do.

If you want to plate onto aluminum, then zincate it first. If you want to plate onto pot metal, plate it with Flash Copper first. If you want to plate onto plastic, spray it with Silvaspray first.

ok, forget the aluminum thats my mistake. my zincate hadnt arrived yet and i thought i would try it out. now forget all about that. i should have been more specific when i said "i have tried every material i could find and it still delaminates." i meant every kind of plastic i could find. i cannot get it to permanently stay on the plastic. also i asked lance caswell if i sandblasted potmetal then use bodyfiller on the pits then siverspray the part would that work. he said "sure" so i did it numerous times and no good. but now i have my solderpaste so thats not an issue anymore. so forget about my first post, infact delete it if you want. but my main problem still persists. when i try to plate nonconductive materials such as ABS, TPO, PP, and others it works but adhesion is not good. after the part sits for a while the plate bubbles up in different areas across the part.
