  • blistering back down to pot metal

I am having trouble with blisters back down to pot metal. My zinc die cast parts stick like like glue and pass all salt spray and quench tests, but my pot metal seems to always blister. Parts are from an old car. I use tce to degrease the parts soak, electro, acid dip, strike, cyanide copper, then acid copper to prepare for buffing to fill in the pits. Please help! i ended up baking the parts and they came out brass looking, whick leads me to believe it contains a large amount of lead....any suggestions?

    Steve:
Take a look at the POTMETAL thread in the forum. It will explain a lot about a good proceedure for plating potmetal. Its difficult to say the least but not impossible.

You have to get rid of the white spots, look very close after you grind away the old plating. The white spots, look close and grind some more.

try using a dilute sulfuric acid to wash away those little white cloud spots.
