Congrats on the new toy! Yes, the part will heat up real fast, pickup some nice gloves and you should be ok, or if you live out east like myself, puti toutside for 4 seconds, and the 10 degree weather will cool it right off

You can use some welding gloves, or thick work gloves. Thats what I use.

        Heya all

For normal polishing i will use "rigger" style gloves, they are reasonably thin, so you can feel the part and it wont slip, and they are also made from leather and cheap as!!
For stainless polishing that gets real hot i use nomex pit crew gloves with little silicon non-slip dimples on them, they are a bit more expensive, but they work better with the higher temps and are still thin enough to not fumble around the job

        Mark!!

i got the motor out of a old garage that i cleaned out for a lady along with alot of other stuff and power tools ...... i got a 8" wheel on it but i know it will run alot bigger ... it is a craftsman.... i got the mandels from caswell for 7.50 each ..... from what i learned so far the smaller the wheel the hotter that part gets... but other than that 30 min. in to a valve cover and you get what i have in the pic above .....

Ordered me up a new toy today too! Getting a Jet JSB-10H 1hp buffer. Had to call Jet tech support to see how much "oomph" it had. [email protected] I think I'll be hard pressed to bog this thing down. (I'm gonna be hard pressed to LIFT it at 106 lbs.. heheh)

$139.95.. Not bad considering the Baldors with similar specs are easily twice that. Should see it in about 7 biz days.. Now to go order up a ton of new wheels for it.

Anyone need any polishing done? ehheeh

do a google search for your buffer and you will find the online users manual and it can be wired for 220 volts as well and usually will pull 1/2 the amps of 110 volts. will be a dramatic saving on your power bill in a years time.

lol! One of those little 2' aluminum ones that'd fold up if ya sneezed too close to it?? The mental image I'm getting cracks me up.

I'm gonna hit the metal supply house tomorrow for some 4" pipe and a piece of 1/4" plate and build myself a stand - I need an excuse to break out the torch I bought and have used ONCE in 2 years. heheeh

Yep. Already planned to do this. I'm going to add a few more circuits to my garage setup, including a couple 220 outlets. My wife is gonna shoot me if I start poking more holes in the drywall. heheh
