  • Thinking of switching to vented buffs......could use a little advice.

hey guys, i think i'm going to go vented. looks like 90% of the population already has- lol I don't know squat about them....other than some are "treated" and "untreated".

Could someone make some recommendations for the right type of wheels? i'd really appreciate it. well....i guess i should mention my set up, first: converted bench grinder. using 6" wheels @ 5100 SFPM.

I usually have three stages.... a heavy cut, then a med. polish and color, and a final finish. I'm only working with die-cast aluminum and ocassionally some .06" rolled sheet stock.

    Thank you!!

the treated ones are more agressive , they are harder , less flexible than untreated .
i don t really like them when new, i think they work better after some breaking in.
also , the ones sold by caswell do not seem to need an adapter plate but the ones sold by many industrial suppliers need the use of special adapter plates
on each side of the wheels.

baz---- great thank you. yeah, i was going to ask about the mounting situation. I guess i'll have to get some sort of spacer or something?

do people "stack" the vented buffs?

i don t think the ones on caswell s site can be stacked ,but i know the real industrial airflex buffs can be stacked.i used to stack 3 12 inch on one of my polisher . wherever you buy them they should be able to supply you with the correct adapters.
