How much time do you have into your banshee. I just looked at your pics and man that looks like you spent at least a year on it.

How did you paint the clutch insert and water pump cover? Also what are you doing about the flywheel cover?

I've been looking over my banshee just thinking of what I want to do next when my rims are done.

Man, sometimes it feels like that.. I took it all apart after I grenaded the motor back in mid-October. Tear down was a 2 day affair, mostly 'cuz I put all parts to a specific assembly in labeled bags and took LOTs of notes as to how things came apart. If I had to guess, I'd say I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 hours into it so far. Literally everything has been bead blasted and polished, powdercoated, painted or chrome plated. The only bearings that have not been replaced are the 2 in the rear bearing carrier (They're only 3 trips old) My new A-arms (I got some +2+1s built) and swingarm are due back tomorrow so I *SHOULD* be done with it this weekend with the exception of the carbs. Polishing them has proved to be rather difficult. hehehe I'll definitely have the front suspension done tomorrow...

I cleaned all the plastic parts with laquer thinner, then hand sanded with 400 wet dry until all the glaze was gone. Hit it again with laquer thinner and then used that Krylon Fusion plastic paint. A painter friend of mine said it was reasonably durable so I figured I'd try it. I found it doesn't atomize very well in cooler temps, so I let the can sit in warm water for about 10 mins before I sprayed. Also, 5 or 6 really light coats seem to work best as it tends to run a bit. It was almost like fogging the paint on from about 18" away. The flywheel cover is the same color. I just polished up the bolts for it this afternoon and will install it once I get the front sprocket and chain secured.

Polish, polish polish!!! The rear link was pretty easy to buff out. The brake calipers are a little bit of work, but you can pretty much get to the entire thing with a 4" wheel. Hardest part with those was getting the old powdercoating off. They definitely need some cleaning up with greaseless compound 'cuz the castings are pretty hideous. I did up my axle today on the new buffing machine. It actually came out pretty good considering it's been through 15 years of hell... A few good nicks in it, but all the rust and oxidation are gone and from about 10' away, it almost looks like chrome.. brake and clutch lever polished up really nice, as did the throttle housing. I *ALMOST* attempted the front master cylinder, but then thought it might look "unbalanced" with the clutch perch being red. The shifter and rear brake pedal came out great as well, but the VHT clear was a disappointment. I may redo them if I have time before President's weekend. I'll be putting pics of this afternoon's efforts up as soon as I get the kids settled for the night. (I put up pics just about every night if you wanna follow along. heheh)

Your brake calipers look good. you've put alot of work in on that machine. I like your idea on the insert and pump cover I might try it since I just ordered a shift kit for mine and the clutch cover will be off.

Do you use greaseless with your mushroom buffs and if so how do you get the buffs to take the greaseless compounds?

I have not yet tried greaseless on the mushroom buffs, but they appear stiff enough to accept the compound. I've got a full length frame skidplate to sand/polish and I was thinking about attacking it with a mushroom buff and greasless to smooth it up, but the more I look at it, the more I'm leaning towards just using my orbital sander up to 400, then a quick block sand with 600 wet. I'll finish it up on the buffer in the usual manner..

Pics of the axle didn't come out too good so I didn't post 'em. I've almost got the rear axle/bearing carrier reassembled (Just gota sand/polish the rear sprocket) so I'll get those pics put up this evening. The red sprocket and rotor hub set off the shiny axle pretty nicely.

Hey i got a full length skid for my banshee also and i attempted to polish it but man it took forever i mainly MX and it was a little bashed in =( hey give me a holla i show you my new race bike 2003 Arens/Laegers 265R

Skiddz, your banshee does look very nice. I would start polishing mine up, but I'm selling it. I got myself a 400ex with quite a bit on it for xmas, so now I'm going to start making it shine. I want to see some pics of your 265 too JHFGSX9D.

I would use the sander, it would probably be alot faster. Do you plan to use your new buffer or use a drill to polish the skid plate?

I just got my shift kit today hopefully install this weekend. I also just got a new swingarm skid, tested on the buffer today should come out real good.

Gonna use the new buffer. Its so much faster than the drill is. Not sure how it's gonna come out 'cuz it's beat to hell. No dents, but a LOT of big gouges and dings..

Finally got all the wiring completed today. Was gonna put the OEM harness back in, but decided to completely disassemble it and get everything that wasn't needed (TORS junk) cut out and get all the wires cut to the correct length to make it all nice and tidy. 7 friggin' hours it took me!! I hope it all works! lol

Didn't get the suspension parts until nearly 5 this evening so didn't get any work done on that. I'm off work tomorrow so I'm gonna spend the day trying to get the suspension and cooling system installed..

Didn't get JACK done on it today. Drove all over the effin' county lookin' for ONE friggin' bolt. My usual shop (which is a good 30 min drive from here) said "Oh yeah, we've got 5 of 'em. Come on down!" and when I got there, they had Z E R O. The only place I could find with the part in stock was 70 effin' miles from here... I spent $40 in gas for a $6 bolt! lol
(Didn't wanna wait until Wednesday to finish up the front end)

Got a bucket of bolts and nuts and several aluminum parts to polish before I can bolt it all up, but I did loosely attach everything on the right side and took a few pics. They're up in the usual place if you wanna take a look.

That's a NICE lookin' case Polishinc. Mine used to look like that until I started reassembling. Gonna need to touch it up a bit once it's all back together and I stop gettin' my grubby hands on it..

Mole, I don't sleep a lot. I only need about 4 hours a night and I'm good to go. Worknights I usually don't go to bed until at least 1 and then I'm up and out the door by 6. I'm also self-employed so I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule.

Wife and kids are all usually zonked by 9 so I get 3-4 hours each evening to do what I want. I don't care for TV so I putz around in the garage or on the computer. I'll be out in the garage, coffee in hand by 7 tomorrow, just waiting to fire up the buffer and get back to it.. eheheh

That makes alot of sense now I see how you get so much done. I don't sleep all that much either, goto bed around 11 or 12 and off to work by 5am. The problem right now is its cold at night so im not much in the mood to go into my garage and freeze. So. Cal must be nice right now.

Hows the new polisher. Could you email the info on it (make, model, amps, horsepower, and the main thing can you plug it into your typical wall outlet 110v) [email protected]

Cold? What's that eheh I just walked in from another couple hours at it. Garage is nice and warm with a couple 1500W halogen worklight burnin'. Sun was out all day today. Got a little cooked on my face 'cuz I dragged the buffer out into the driveway for today's efforts..

Rear swingarm and linkage are on, front lower A-arms are on. Got a small fitment problem with the uppers. Nothing a drill press and a belt sander won't fix.
