  • COMPLETE FAQ - NEED YOUR HELP

ok instead of bits and chunks of information how abou a complete faq for polishing motorcycles?

lets say you are doing the swing arm or main spar of the frame and you are using black compound on a sisal wheel.....

what direction should the wheel be facing?
example: should the wheel be parallel or perpendicular to the frame/swingarm?

what direction should you move in?
strictly cut? only left, only right, only up, only down (pending on wheel orientation and spin direction) circles? left and right? up and down?

at what speed do you move the wheel?
    very slow? slow? moderate? fast?

how much pressure do you place on the wheel?
light? (only moderate noise is made) hard? you can really hear the wheel work

how much compound do you apply?
    hold bar to wheel for?
    1 second
    2-3 seconds
    1/2 second
    a split second?

    how often do you reapply?
30 seconds? a few minutes? until no more wax residue appears from cutting?

    how often do you rake?

    how do you rake?
hold hand saw perpendicular or parrallel to wheel?

what grit do you sand up to?
    (this is very controversial)

some people mention that going up to 400 or 600 grit is fine because the black on sisal creates courser scratches than if you went up to a higher grit like 1500 or 2000

    how to sand?
    wet or dry?
hand, dual action, random orbit, palm?

with hand sanding....one direction ex: only left or only right or left and right
