  • Can I use my DeWalt DW849 Buffer on Wheels?

    Hello everyone,

I am a noob here and to metal polishing but a huge auto enthusiast who has to know how to do everything himself haha. My question is I have a DeWalt DW849 Buffer that will reach speeds of 3000 rpms and was wondering if there is a way I could use this to polish my Aluminum wheels back up.

This is what I have now I was wondering if there is a way to use this and attach buffing wheels to it? One of the problems I see right now is that it uses a 5/8" spindle thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated I have tried searching but have had no luck right now.

    The Specifications for these is:
    Amps 8.0 AC Amps
    Max Watts Out 1,400 W
    No Load Speed 0-1,000/0-3,000 rpm
    Spindle Thread 5/8"-11
    Spindle Lock Yes
    Tool Length 17.3 "
    Tool Weight 8.25 lbs

3,000 is a good rpm. You might be able to use the edges of regular buffing wheels as sold on here. They have 5/8" bore (among others) but you shaft might not be long enough to accept one with a nut to hold it on.

BTW, shouldn't go much over 4" diameter wheel or it'll get away from you...

Also, must saw awesome customer service so far hopefully I can place an order tonight.

HELL YEAH!!!! I have that polisher AND adaptor and that's what I used entirely on the R1 wheels I did! It's perfect. Just be careful when it grabs...that adaptor can do huge damage!

when using that adaptor or anything like it (especially when i do drive rims on a semi), I slip a piece of rubber heater hose (with just a big enough inside diameter) over it to protect the surface I am working on.

Dragging that thing on your piece will cause some damage.

you can if you supply a longer bolt. it is a standard 1/2-20 thread i think.
