removing anodizing for polishing

I just bought an oil filler cap made of solid aluminium. I want to polish it but it has an anodised red finish that I can't seem to remove.

SAnding works, but the layer is so tough it will take forever. Paint stripper don't work either.

I've been told to use oven cleaner on the part?

Any other suggestions.
