  • Stainless Steel Hub Caps

Ok, I?m completely new at this polishing so please don?t beat me up too badly. And I looked thru all the other postings.

I?m trying to restore to mirror finish a set of hubcaps that over the years have rubbed up against the curbs. They have some fairly deep scratches. What are the steps I need to do to get them back to a mirror finish?

I have a complete metal fabricating shop and most all the tools. Just lacking the know how.

If they are heavily scratched, start with 80 grit greaseless. Work your way through the grits to about 600. Then hit it with green compound.
Please read the buffing guide: http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/buffman.htm
It is a very good first step to familiarize you with the terms and methods used for buffing.

Don't forget to finish it off with white. I get an incredible luster on my stainless steel and chrome when I polish it with green and follow up with white!
