  • pits in old aluminium cases mostly british motorcycles

I have been polishing old motorcycle aluminum side cases mostly British, have 2 Norton covers. one had pits I sanded quite a bit from the case and got rid of them, the second case I have done the same but have not got past them? is it possible they go all the way through or will I get past them? are they from the casting process or from corrosion thanks

The pits should not go all the way through. They are most likely from sand and gravel on the road. Unless the part has been exposed to acid or something the only corrosion you should have would be the oxidized layer on top of the aluminum.
