I am talking about polishing the inside part, not the part the pads ride on. thanks

I'm not postive that I recall exactly what the disc is one the Norton's I took care of two for friends back in the '70's a 750 which I put a lot of miles and work into more than the owner and an 850 I did all repairs and maitence on the Bonnevilles I have are steel centers I believe the Norton is very similar.The disc would have to be removed and if like the Triumphs I have are a very rough texture in the center so would have to be smooth down before polishing.You could try and polish and then spray some clear over to prevent rust but I don't think it would last very long.I would recommend having it plated.either nickle or chrome.Let me know exactly what you have pics if you have them.Where are you located at?

I don't have all the details but you are not supposed to chrome rotors due to physical changes to the metal stucture the occurs during the plating process which weakens the rotor.

Show-only bikes may have chromed rotors. The technique for polishing the non-friction surfaces of motorcycle disc rotor is the same for any other metal. Finish it the same way you would finish stainless steel (even if it isn't stainless). And clear coat it, or if it's easily accessible use a good metal polish/protectant and reapply as needed. Some rotors do not need any protectant once polished due to the type of metal/allot used.

I guess if you had it professionally dip plated as in the whole rotor it probably would or could weaken it a lot of the chromemoly racing frames get nickle plated and some crack and some don't I have a Knight dirt track frame that is nickle plated and cracked right after it was built but since I welded has never cracked again I would think you could use on of Caswells brush plating kits to plate the center carrier area safely but I'm not a metalogy scientist either.
