  • sandblasting and 304 stainless steel

Our equipments are used in waste water treatment plant. We sand balst our weldment to give uniform appearance on 304 stainless. Lately we have notice corrosion after installation with in 4-6 months. Can sandblasting have removed protective chromium oxide film or introducd carbon particles to surface?

The protective passivated layer is removed anytime you rework stainless. You will need to passivate the surface to restore the corrosive resistant layer. Usually done with several acid baths, with warmed nitric acid as the last one, followed by a water rinse.
