Protecting Polished Surface

I have just started restoring old brass hardware. I have managed to impart a stunning polished surface. Now, can anyone recommend a good way to keep it that way? Some of the pieces I am working on appear to have been coated with clear lacquer. However, they started turning black under the coating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any of the metal polishes should work.

Almost forgot, Caswell sells this stuff called Zoopseal. It's one of those once a year, won't dull the finish like powdercoating protectants.

Not sure if you can find the formula, but egyptian lacquer is the best I have seen. I wish that I had written it down. It sprays nice with no runs and looks invisible after it is dry.

What did you use to get that great finish? I've got a guy that wants me to nickel plate some small brass parts, but need to know what to use to prep the brass. Thanks.

you can put a high grade carnuba wax on it

Use VHT Genuine Clear Lacquer. This is a nitrocellulose lacquer, designed for the job.

What about that hi-temp (500 degree) clear enamel from DupliColor? I've only tried it on painted parts but I'd be curious if it works and looks good on polished parts as well.
