i'm doing a black out on my bike (kz1000) the only part i can't figure out how to black out is the upper forks. i can pc the lower legs but the fork tubes are hard chromed i believe, can i use blackening solution? that's the only way i can figure to get them black without any surface build up. how to blacken with a hard chrome surface?

juust a thought bro but have you tried gun blueing solution? it might work and give the finish you are looking for. you have to clean very well before you put the solution on though.when in doubt polish it out/ why replace it when you can refinish it

i think that part is plated with Boron Nitride .. you will need to either strip them then using a blueing product or better yet:
you can use the black oxide kit: http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/black.htm
Now if you got plating you will need this aswell:
Good luck

thanks guys. the blackening solution seems the way to go. how hard would it be to strip the original finnish? i spent a couple of hours looking yesterday but it's all greek to me.from what i read the blackening seems like it would hold up to oil and the friction of the seal. would look great too.
