  • Outgas Signs

    Hey guys,
Getting ready to powder my first aluminum piece. What are some signs of outgassing that I should look for after the part has been baked.

You'll notice it right away! There will be bubbles "blown out" through your powder coat. Clean the part well. I wash mine down real well with CRC BraKleen brake cleaner. It destroys grease and oil. Then sandblast it real well. Put in the oven and "bake" at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes *before* powder coating. This will let the aluminum outgas before you powder coat it. Let it cool, then powder coat like normal. It may not completely eliminate the bubbles in your powder, but it will dramatically reduce them. Good luck!
