hey what do u use to hang ur parts when you powder coat them/ cure them? Like cable or what?

You can purchase premade hooks from lots of companies or make your own. Use steel or aluminum, wire,rod or fasteners depending on your needs. If you want a real cheap one go to your local hardware store and buy a couple of rolls of stove pipe wire in assorted sizes.It's only 1 or 2 dollars for the roll. Figure out a cheap way to do it and throw the hooks away after single use for best results.

I bought a roll of 12 gauge copper electrical wire from Home Depot. Just strip off the insulation and you have an excellent conductor that can be moved directly from the spray booth to the oven.

I've used the darndest things to coat with....but what basically works is this. I've used/suggest getting a roll of welding mig wire and cut the amount needed to hang the part. THEN I put a hook through the loop of wire I just fashioned. Saves the hook from getting coated, therefore re-useable. The wire can be clipped with snips, therefore disposable (not to mention, it last forever....even in an industrial application). I've found hooks made of 1/8" round steel (found at a hardware store) to be best suited for anything up to a certain weight. Threaded rod cut and bent will give you the same hook. Experiment with most anything metal you have laying around. I've turned wire mesh paper baskets upside down and placed a part to be coated on that (one side),used coat hangers,baling wire,stove pipe wire (as stated in a previous post),etc. As long as it provides good ground, supports the height,weight and heat requirements...it's all good. I was thinking about trying leftover 10gauge copper electrical wire I got left.


I wasnt sure if it could go up to 400 deg.

Curious... how come you can only use it once?

I stole a bunch of hangers out of my wife's side of the closet, then cut them up and made hooks out of them.

They work great and are very strong.

I guess getting them from my side of the closet would have worked too, but then I wouldn't have as much to laugh about when she goes to the closet.

I use Mechanics wire mostly. Just the Tire wire stuff, like $5 for a 300 Ft roll LOL. But, with my latest client, adn the volume I am getting into, I think I am going to be looking at premade hooks real soon here. Did 145 Pcs today, and he's dripping off over 200 tomorrow. Alot of wire, for sure.

Dripping off over 200? You need to tell that guy to bring you dry parts if he wants a good price on them.

You only use it once cause it's easier and faster to toss it than clean it. If you use the same metal hanger for spraying it will get dusted also, then use it to bake and it gets baked also. So next time you try to use it the powder coat stops you from getting a decent ground unless you clean off the coating to bare metal again.
