Like Stytooner said, it will most likely be operator error, not equipment failure. Practice on some junk parts first. Don't learn how to powder coat on prized posessions. Learn on scrap. Sand blast and prep your parts carefully, have everything planned out, and you'll do fine. The gun will work fine for what you want to do. Don't cheap out and try to use space heaters to cure powder. It just won't work.

The only difference (besides higher Kv abilities) is basically price. All powdercoating guns basically take a powder, give it an electrostatic charge and "throw" it at the part, period. I personally know some professionals who use "hobbyist" guns as back-up models and have yet to hear " the finish looks like it was put on with a hobbyist gun"..... let's face it, it just doesn't happen. Why? Because the powder doesn't care (for the most part) if you paid 125 or 4900 for a gun. It's inert and has no thought process and only does what you "tell" it to do..... basically one and the same if that helps you with your answer.... Russ

I have just purchased this gun also. I have never powder coated before and I only intend to do relatively small parts compared to a bike frame, but how perfect does a frame that will mostly be covered need to be realistically?
I don't think this equipment will be the cause of error while I learn this technique. It will be operator error, I'm sure. I will get the hang of it. I will do several parts until I get consistently good results.
I would suggest that you do the same, perhaps on a tricycle frame or something first. Get the hang of the technique and procedures, then attempt the ATV frame.
This gun comes with a warranty and you might be able to return it if you aren't satisfied with it. If not, there's always E-Bay.
I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems that these guys answered you as much as possible. It is something that might save me a lot of time in the future, so I am willing to take the risk.

Are you to do professional jobs with this gun ? I mean will stuff come out looking very nice if i use the gun the right way ? Im purchasing the gun so respond to me as soon as possible. You think i would be able to use a Ir light to cure the frame ? Also where can i purchase candy powders like candy red and candy. Really thinking about buying this gun just dont want a bad gun that wont do a professional powder coat job and come out looking awsome.

Like i said, the even coat is more of the coater and not the gun at your level. The gun can spray anything, whether a peice of flat metal or a motor cycle frame.

Buy the caswell gun. You are a hobbyist and do not need anything more sophisticated. The coating is more in the coater than the gun at your stage.
