  • Too Much Powder

Yesterday I shot some motorcycle parts blue, they came out great, they look like they are wet. I then changed the powder to black.

For some reason the gun shot way too much black powder and the parts came out terrible. What causes too much powder to come out? Was the air pressure too high?

Chances are you had too much powder in the cup.

      What exactly is the cup?
Is that the container that holds the powder that is attached to the gun?

        Yep,
I wouldnt fill the cup more than 1/2 full or so....i think thats how i did it when i used to use the hobby gun.

Have one more question: Can you shoot straight down?

Every time I try a bunch of powder falls out of the end of the gun.

I wouldn't shoot straight down. Wave the gun slowly back and forth across the top of the part and let the charged powder attract to the part. You'll get a much more even coat that way.

One of my biggest problems is getting powder into inside corners and crevises....I often end up with too much powder on adjacent areas. Any tips for getting inside corners?

A couple things i do is really shake the tip of that gun and make a big mist of powder and let it gentily fall into place. Another thing i do is isntead of shooting at the corner head on i shoot from behind the peice to let it wrap around and gentily get into the corner and crevices. Crank your air down and back off. Always try and hit the farraday areas before any other peice to prevent uneven build up..

Thanks, I'll try that....Would changing the air pressure or using a different tip help at all? Wish I could get a narrow stream of powder to reach those difficult areas....Guess I'm thinking like a painter too!

A narrow stream is bad for corners. You can remove the tip though and use it without.
