pro help please

I'm pretty new at this so bare with me pleae, I was trying to do a part on a dirt bike for a kid down the road from me, after an hour of him goggle eyeing the colors he wante crome and candy red, I blasted the thing and then pc it in chrome baked it and it looked awesome...I was ready to quit...I then applied the candy red trying to stay away from the two chrome pipes comming out of this thing....didnt work...tried blowing of the excess podwer and it just seemed to get worse, I was being cheap..I know I could have used the green tape but this was just a doing it for a kid job, any ideas how I should attempt this with out using the spendy green tape

How about masking it off with normal masking tape and news paper and then CAREFULLY peeling it off?
