  • Orange Peel

Using Harbor Freight Gloss Black powder.

Seems everytime I try to re-coat I get an orange peel.
I am coating small motorcycle parts such as aluminum master cylinders etc.

I am using a small toaster oven set at 425 F for both coats. After melt I leave them cook for about twenty minutes.

Reading this forum it seems I am coating too heavy. I coat the second about the same as the first (or so I think).

Bottom line. Is over applying 'the only way' to get the peel affect?

This has happened three out of three attempts.

    regards

the only thing i might suggest is to reallllllly make sure your parts are CLEAN....i meen blastem, blow em down and (myself i wipe everything down with a lint free cloth with acetone...and shoot it right away..)

I have had the same results myself using Harbor Frieght BLACK powder. I have not had that issue when using caswell powders or the Yellow from Harbor frieght.

I'll try the cleaning and some new powder. I'll post if I find a helpful solution.
