Oven again!!!

Hello everyone. yep, i'm new at this. i've been reading everything i can find on building an oven. maybe my idea is new and maybe not but here it goes.

i was thinking of building an insulated rectangle box and using the 250w infrared bulbs used in heating a bathroom. my thoughts were two on each long side (offset from one and other), one on each end and two in the top. i figured i would mount them in "cans" like in a bathroom and control the temp with a dimmer switch and vent holes. any thoughts?

I thought about trying the same thing, but was not sure if the lights would get hot enough to the 400 mark and stay there. Try a test first in a small box with just one and see if it get to the right temp

You can cycle those with an oven controller to achieve the desired temperature.You simply hook up an oven controller and temp probe like an electric oven, only instead of wiring elements to the relays, you connect the IR heater.If you use the number of lights you stated then you would have 2000 watts. How big of an oven do you want to build and how well is it going to be insulated?

big enough to accomodate a motorcycle frame but i thought i would have an adjustable wall for smaller pieces. now the more i read, i come to find it is not air temp, rather temp of the piece which is coated that is critical. will the ir heat lamps generate enough heat to bring a motorcycle frame (as an example) to 350 - 400 degrees?

Yes, but you only have to bring surface to temp. You may have to add more lights though.

Wayne--- yes. The oven controller has what you need except for a relay.
