  • clear over a handled PC part

I coated a pulley which has been handled and now wish to clear coat it.What should I use to prep the part before applying the clear?
    Thanks

What I use for my raw aluminum and a pre degresser for steels is mean green. Its available at Dollar General stres. Its a good degreaser and doesn't leave a film when rinsed with water. I have used this to clen up some chrome that I got a couple finger prints on somehow. Then I sprayed the clear after I let the part dry in the oven and cool somewhat. Came out well.

The PC I'm going to clear over is chrome. There's a few finger prints and stuff on it.Are you sure this will work because I really don't want to have to strip it back down.Just spray on and rinse off?
      Thanks

You know, now that you mention it, you made me retrack my steps. I do use mean green to clean everything first. I don't have mean green outside at my spray booth though. I have regular windex out there. This has to be what I used to get rid of the finger prints on chrome before clear coating. I still rinsed it with water after the windex though and let it dry in a heating oven. Then let cool again.
Sorry about the mix up on my part. I don't think the mean green will hurt the chrome though, however the chrome is such a fickle finish that you might want to stick with the windex.

PS. You rub the windex with a soft cloth like you were cleaning a sheet of glass.
