does anybody know where you get inexpensive tanks. i was going to get a old propne tank from my local supplier but i was told that the smell from the gas additive never goes away. i am wearing a suit that gets its air supplied from my compressed air so that would not work for me. new tanks are not cheap. i was hoping that someone new of a industrie that disgarded tanks 100 to250 gal? or is thier a compressor junk yard out thier. in the pacific northwest. i'm looking for two or three tanks. i have room i want to put them in and stack them up. my buddy has six of these 250gal units and it is pretty neat set up. i have about 250 right now but i have a nack for over kill so if anybody knows of tanks give a shout out.

that there is a casgade system,,,, we have that at the fire dept to fire are scba tanks ... the filler is a turbine compresor that uses outside air, hooked to a air dryer then a bunch of filters and what not's and pumped it... to fill you do 1 tank at a time to use open one tank at a time starting with the last to keep = pressure in the system and shut down the same way

custom my buddy runs all the tanks together are you saying it is beter to use them on at a time while the compressor re fills the last one used? if this what you meant it sounds like a headache building a relay control box to switch at the high and low pressure spots to keep the air flowing non stop. actually it mat not be so hard to do just using compressor pressure switches hooked to electric control valves, and tying the tanks to gether on a central manifold which you have to do anyhow.
you would come out of the compressure into a manifold with a line feeding to each tank, on each of these lines you would install a eletrcic valve. which you would wire to the pressure switch on your manifold that ties the tanks together onthe way to your equipment side. the elctric pressureswitches on the tanks would open the valves when they show a pressure drop allowing that atnk to be filled. at the same time it would close the valve on the exit side of the tank. when the pressure switch is tripped from maximum pressure it would close the fill side while leaving open the exit side. i can name this tune in two relays per tank and two control valves per tank. and with some liquid oxygen and a open flame i see no problem in traveling to space!!!! just kidding
i already use a two stage compressor for fast recovery and a single stage to elp keep up with the slack if i get real big projects. i just hooked the two tanks toghether so that i basically have a big tank with two comprresor heads attached. i set the second smaller compressor two a lower start pressure. if the volume isn't high the secondary pump never comes on. and if volume is high i'm not running the heck out of my big compressor. really it is not a isue for me i just would like to add about 750 gallons to my set up so that i can go out during the middle of the night or ater 9pm and do a bit of blasting without running up the compresor and causing my neigbor to lynch me.

you can do that if you want .. but here is a better way to do it with out the tanks:
          1. get a air mask from an scba
          2. homedepot hard swimming pool hose
          3. fan high cfm will do but a bathroom fan will work

build a box on the outside of you are outside the building will do to
install bathroom fan so air is drawed in .
reduce size of outlet ect... hook hose run to blasing area
now get a rubber hose hook to the hose you just ran .. and there you go fresh clean air ... use a filter to keep the bee's and stuff out ... i had a set up like this in my paintbooth

my two compressors feed a two hundred gallon tank it takes them six minutes to build one hundred sixty pounds of pressure from zero. with this info can i figure out the cfm?

How about you make the whole thing simple and just get one compressor the size that you actually need.Right now the used equipment market is full. Industrial compressors actually have a very low resale value once they hit high hours.
