  • poweder coat over real chrome

I tried searching for an answer to this, but couldn't find anything. Has anyone tried to put a transparent (or clear) powdercoat over an aluminum piece that already has a real chrome finish? I would imagine that the chrome would handle the heat, but I'm worried about outgassing and discoloration. I'm looking at buying a brand new aluminum license plate frame with a new chrome finish, then putting a liquid smoke powdercoat over it. Anyone eveer try this?

    Thanks!

I have PC'd over chrome before with great results. I did not use a Clear/Transparent color. I used Safety yellow and it has held up great.

Did you preheat or have any trouble with outgassing?

NO & NO. Just cleaned it off with windex believe it or not. hung it up, dusted it and baked. Going to do the same process this weekend on a set CAI tubes.
