  • Gun cleaning techniques

I bought a intake from a junk yard and decided to coat it white. I coated it fine, but upon further investigation I noticed that there was tiny bits of red and black coating in it. I have used the gun for other colors, but I cleaned it thoroughly with a air nozzle. oh by the way I use the caswell hobby gun. I squirted into every nook and cranny until no powder came out. I also removed the plug on the underside of the gun and cleaned it. Am I missing anything? I just wanted to hear what you guys do.

I have a cup just for cleaning. I rinse it out and let it dry between shots. I then crank up the psi to MAx and blow out the gun. Then I attach my air nozzle and blow the entire gun off with it and since doing that I have had minimal cross dottings

I cleaned my gun as much as possible and I always got colored dots
I had to buy a new gun just for light colors

One trick I learned is to always unscrew the little plastic flathead screw underneath the plastic tube of the gun and blow it out through there as well.

I broke the barrel loose (glue joint) on mine. Makes it easy to remove the barrel and clean the insides. With barrel off I use a 44 cal nylon gun cleaning brush to clean inside the body of the gun and the powder tube. Amazing how much **** gets built up in those areas... Never have a problem with cross contamination.

            Popeye,
How are you putting it back together to spray with? It seem like a good idea, and you think they'd make it so it could be designed to be quickly broken down and cleaned out. But if you have to glue it back each time, that could get old, too. So what's the trick? What sort of voodoo do I gotta do to get mine to do that, too?

No Voodoo... It fits back together very snugly and at first I was a little concerned it might wear and get loose but that hasn't been a problem.
I broke it apart about a year and a half ago when I first got the gun...many many times on/off and it's still tight.
The only problem I did have is the electrode came loose from the gun. There's a little notch in the gun where the electrode fits, appears to be the same type glue they used to attach the barrel. It was an easy fix with a dab of epoxy.
