Thanks Popeye, I had thought about that and checked a can after baking a part and found it to only be warm. Maybe I'll put a thermocouple in there during my next coating session just to be sure.

Cruizer, I've never known an oven to turn on the broiler except for broiling, and this one is no exception. But I've never had a gas oven with an electric broiler element too, that's not a combination I would expect.

    Nice setup! Very innovative!

So let me get this straight, in an electric oven, the broiler is not in use inless it is set for use? I know in my gas range when the oven is in use, the broiler is on.

    started a topic My setup

    My setup

I've been promising pics of my setup so here they are. I went to a local appliance store and got an oven in good condition that had a broken glass top for the radiant burners.

Then I designed a spray booth that could be built out of a single sheet of plywood and that would fit atop the oven. I mounted a power strip to the top and fastened the power supply there as well. I also mounted a pair of 6 inch fans with a transition piece to funnel the air into a single six inch dryer duct.

Mounted inside the top surface of the booth is a flourescent light fixture as well as one of the racks of the oven. This serves as both a retainer for a 12 x 12 x 1 inch pleated air filter as well as providing a place for multiple hooks for hanging the workpieces.

I made a hinged access panel in the back so that the oven controls could be accessed and also added a removeable piece in the front to help control the dust. A side benefit of this booth is that I also use it for my zinc plating operation. The small black air filter mounted on the left side is for the percolation air feed.

As you can see in the last picture, the bottom drawer serves as a nice place for storing supplies.

So far I have powder coated numerous parts for my 65 vette, including clear coating a number of polished aluminum components including valve covers, intake manifold, water pump and alternator. I've done a number of miscellaneous brackets and hardware in semi gloss black and silver.

And I recently clear coated the 15" wheels for my truck.
