  • Help with Recoating a physco lime frame!!!

Ok, well I powdercoated a small frame with Physco lime, I layed down a near chrome first. I used a lamp to cure it, and it just doesn't work that good for 2 layer coatings. Well, a couple spots on the frame didn't turn out that good (kinda rough and just plain weird looking), is there a way I can recoat it without sandblasting it, even though it's a candy color? If so, please list steps involved. I will be using an oven this time so nothing to worry about there. Thanks a lot and I need help quick, this needs to be done soon.

I would lite sand the ruff areas and start over,,,chrome and then the candy. I just have never had any good luck with lamps, ideally you should take it back down to metal but re-coating it in the chrome will give you uniform color when you shoot it with the candy,,,use the oven for sure..

So I shouldn't roughen the whole frame? Should I spray it while it's hot? If so, what temp?

Myself I would just do the ruff spots, bake it to around 150f will help getting the powder to coat..its always chancy to re-shoot but if your not going to strip it again this what i would do...you might want to hold out a day or so and see if someone else has a better idea ....

Ok, I'll see if there are any other ideas, if not I'll try this one. CustomandSound, any ideas?

i am ordering some candy colours, will just sandblasting the alluminum provide a good enough base? or will it not work at all? Or do i just have to do it on a chromed surface?

Applying candy colors over a sandblasted part will not give you the candy appearance. Candy colors should be applied over a chrome basecoat or a polished part. You can use silver to achieve a darker color. I have also heard of people using white as a basecoat but I do not know how that affects the outcome. Try it over a silvervein basecoat and see how it comes out :P

i take it it will have a very dull finish, any other ways of achieving a good finish with the candies?

i use white when i want a deep candy look another excellent choice is to use a metalic silver base.
